6 Simple Spiritual Practices That You Can Start Today

When we think of well-being and health we usually consider physical and mental questions forgetting spirituality. Spirituality has many benefits, it can make us more compassionate towards others and oneself, it can make us more resilient, and can aid in having a more joyful view of life itself.

These are some spiritual rituals easy to implement and not attached to a particular religion, anyone can do it, and that can provide numerous benefits.

  1. Meditation: Through meditation, we can learn a lot about ourselves, calm the mind, reduce stress, and increase overall well-being. Meditation is a great tool to find inner peace and to see below the surface, broadening our perception. To get started, find a quiet location where you won't be disturbed and feel safe, sit in a relaxed position with your back straight, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. When your mind wanders, notice it and gently bring your attention back to your breath.
  2. Yoga: Yoga is an exercise practice that combines movement with breath and can improve flexibility, strength, and balance and reduce stress. It's a great way to stay healthy and connected with yourself. Through yoga practice, one can cultivate awareness and connect with the higher consciousness.
  3. The best way to start is to find a beginner's yoga class, using a yoga app, or YouTube videos. If you are new to this practice, a real-life yoga class can be extremely beneficial to get you started on the right foot. If you have already experimented with yoga and have some notions, it's easier to practice by yourself at home.
  4. Daily Affirmations: This ritual is extremely powerful and easy to implement into any routine. Affirmations are a set of positive statements, usually "I" statements, that can help pivot your mindset to promote self-confidence and self-love amongst other life goals. Choose a few affirmations that make sense to you and repeat them to yourself each day. Some examples are "I am worthy," "I am capable," or "I am loved."
  5. Gratitude Journaling: Gratitude journaling is an effective way to cultivate a positive outlook and grow feelings of happiness. Don't misjudge the power of writing a gratitude list. By doing so, you can gain insight into yourself and improve your well-being, mentally and spiritually. All you need is to write down three things you're grateful for on a daily basis, it just takes a few minutes and it can be anything big or small, important or minor.
  6. Walking in Nature: Spending time in nature is proven to have a calming effect on the mind, body and soul. It can strengthen our connection with something bigger than us, nature itself. Take a daily or weekly walk-in nature for as long as possible, it can be 15 minutes to an hour, and notice the sights, sounds, and smells around you.

Altogether, these rituals can promote your spirituality, self-reflection, happiness, and sense of belonging and comfort. Furthermore, they are simple to incorporate into any routine.
